COVID-19 Updates
The current state of my business, for those who can't wait to be sparkled again.
June 22, 2020

Hi friends,

How I miss seeing your lovely faces and sparkling your beautiful hair! Many of you have written to check in with me, and have shared that you still have some sparkles in your hair - I love it! I am grateful for the sense of community and optimism you have shared with me; it means so much.

I hope you and your loved ones are healthy as we head into summer and our states and counties and businesses begin (or continue) the process of "reopening" in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. With my county entering "Phase 1 Reopening" this past weekend, and with the increase in fairy hair inquiries I have been receiving, I wanted to let you all know where things stand with Silk & Tresses, and the current state of my evolving plans for moving forward.

To state it plainly, I am not prepared to reopen my business just yet. I'll share a few reasons - rest assured that I do not take this decision lightly:

  • Though my county has approved the reopening of salons, the guidelines and requirements for operating a business like mine are, necessarily, both extensive and expensive. While I completely agree with and am grateful for the cautious approach, the logistics of a one-person "business without a shop" to comply are prohibitive.
  • I have several medically high-risk individuals in my household/circle of contact, and feel strongly that the risk to them of exposing myself to a larger segment of the general population simply isn't prudent or wise - especially as so many other people are just beginning to increase their own exposure as well.
  • Operating my business now would mean that, regardless of how careful I was, I would still become a potential conduit of transmission between not only my customers and my household, but also between all of the customers I might serve. At this point, I simply cannot accept that risk to all of you in good conscience.
While I love fairy hair and thoroughly believe in the value of self-care and the joy that it brings to my customers (and all who meet them!), the fact remains that hair sparkling is a completely optional and discretionary activity. I am eager to get "back to business" and sparkle all of you again, but I'm not in a rush to do so at the expense of common sense and safety.

So, what is my plan? At the moment, I am not committing to a firm reopening date, but plan to take things slowly and reassess in a month's time. If I feel comfortable starting to sparkle again this summer, it will almost certainly be outdoors and via private appointments, with masks and all of the necessary precautions.

Lastly, since some of you have asked after my family and well-being (thank you!), I will say that we are healthy and well. I've been using this time away from fairy hair to reconnect with my 8 year old son, and to refocus on building my life coaching practice - it feels like the perfect time to be giving back to the world. I am currently offering a free six-week coaching series to any and all who need it, so please feel free to reach out if you need some extra support in any area of your life right now. (And yes, this offer is okay to share if you know somebody who could benefit from it.) Email me at for more information.

Thank you all for your continued support and patience. One day we will all be sparkly again!

Hi Friends,

I'm not fond of the panic surrounding COVID-19, but I do recognize the need for common sense and precautionary measures. Since fairy hair is a "high-touch" business involving direct physical contact with customers, it runs contrary to the social distancing measures that have been urged by health officials in recent days. While I can (and do!) certainly wash my hands frequently, there simply isn't a good way to sanitize all of my materials between customers to ensure any level of sterilization.

I have decided to cancel my public fairy hair events for the coming weeks. I will miss sparkling you all, but look forward to healthier times. I'll send out email updates and update my Facebook page as I have more information about when I will be starting up again.

In the meantime, you are welcome to purchase a gift certificate if you would like to pre-pay for fairy hair at a later date! I can take payment via check or VenMo and mail you the gift certificate - no need to leave the house, and a great way to support a local business. Email me for more information.

Until then, stay healthy, and I will sparkle you again as soon as I can!
